Synopsis

This course provides practical knowledge on how to quantify and verify energy savings at the whole-building level using the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) Option C methodology. The programme introduces the fundamentals of Measurement and Verification (M&V), including baseline development, reporting periods, adjustment methods, and uncertainty evaluation. Participants will learn how to build statistical baseline models using regression analysis and how to determine verified energy savings using utility meter data.

The course also covers the preparation of an M&V Plan, identification of independent variables, routine and non-routine adjustments, and calculation of uncertainty and statistical validity. Through practical exercises, participants will analyze real datasets, develop baseline regression models, calculate adjusted baseline energy, determine energy savings, and report verified savings.

By the end of the programme, participants will gain hands-on experience in applying Option C M&V methods for whole facility energy performance assessment in commercial or institutional buildings.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:​

• Describe the IPMVP framework and the application of Option C (Whole Facility) for energy savings verification.
• Develop baseline energy models using regression analysis and relevant independent variables.
• Perform routine and non-routine adjustments for fair comparison between baseline and reporting periods.
• Calculate verified energy savings and cost savings using whole-building energy consumption data.
• Evaluate statistical validity and uncertainty in M&V results.
• Prepare essential components of an M&V Plan for whole-building energy performance assessment.
