SYNOPSIS
As CO₂-rich environments become increasingly prevalent in oil & gas, CCUS, and carbon transport projects, understanding corrosion behaviour is critical to ensuring asset integrity and operational reliability. This practical programme provides participants with a structured understanding of CO₂ corrosion prediction, covering the fundamental principles, engineering calculations, and decision-making processes required to evaluate corrosion risks in CO₂ systems. Participants will explore how factors such as pH, CO₂ partial pressure, temperature, and flow conditions influence corrosion behaviour, and how these parameters are applied in real-world engineering assessments. Beyond technical knowledge, the course introduces a competency-based framework that helps engineers assess their current capabilities and understand the progression from Engineer to Principal Engineer. Through practical exercises and industry-relevant discussions, participants will gain greater confidence in applying corrosion engineering principles to support design, operational, and integrity management decisions in modern energy projects Ideal for engineers, integrity professionals, corrosion specialists, and technical personnel involved in oil & gas, CCUS, carbon transport, and high-CO₂ production systems.
OBJECTIVE
- Understand how CO₂ corrosion can be predicted by calculating pH using established equations and corrosion principles
- Interpret corrosion rate predictions derived from pH using Freecorp™ software
- Identify key competencies required to perform CO₂ corrosion simulations and evaluate it as a damage mechanism
- Compare material selection options, including carbon steel and corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA) such as stainless steel and duplex stainless steel
- Apply a competency framework to assess current capabilities and identify development gaps
- Understand how FazCorrS supports profession from any field/discipline by providing reliable insights based on proven equations and real field data
